Abstract: The anodic oxidation of bis-(p-methoxyphenol) derivatives bearing methoxymethyl, methoxyethoxymethyl, or t-butyldimethylsilyl protecting groups affords regiospecifically bis-dienones which can be annelated with anions derived from 3-cyanophthalides to yield bisanthraquinones and bisanthracyclinones.
