Abstract: The meaning of "nervous shock", both legal and medical, has changed over the years. Recent interpretations have blurred the margins and rendered less certain what once may have appeared to have been clear cut definitions. This brief note focuses on changing psychiatric nosology and legal judgements in attempting to clarify this challenging area of medico-legal practice.
