Abstract: | The first section contains four papers on fibres, textiles and economic development, which examine some historical evidence for the role of the textiles sector and assess its current importance. The second section focuses on the demand for textile exports from newly industrialising Asia, and particularly on the structural adjustments and policy responses of more advanced industrial nations. The papers in the first section are revised versions of those presented at a conference organised in 1989 by the Australia-Japan Research Centre of the Australian National University. All papers are abstracted separately. -M.Amos |
