Title: Strengthening of reinforced concrete beams by bolting steel plates to their sides
Author: Ahmed, Marfique
Issue Date: 1997
School/Discipline: Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering
Abstract: This thesis presents a preliminary study of the strengthening of existing reinforced concrete beams by bolting steel plates to their sides. The study shows that the elements in the plated beams slip relative to each other both longitudinally and vertically. Mathematical models to quantify the vertical slip and the vertical shear forces are developed and a design procedure for plated beams is described.
