Abstract: Microstructured fibers offer a range of optical properties that cannot be achieved in conventional (solid) optical fibers. Although to date, most work in this field has focused on silica glass, non-silica microstructured fibers are attractive for applications including nonlinear devices, mid-IR transmission and photonic bandgap operation. A review of progress in the development and applications of non-silica microstructured fibers will be presented.
