Title: Geology of the Mt Chambers Mine region, northern Flinders Ranges

Abstract: Remapping of the Mt Chambers Mine region has shown the mapping by Dalgarno and Johnson does not adequately represent the Lower Cambrian formations present. Lower and Middle Cambrian sedimentation took place in a shallow marine environment in this region. During the early Lower Cambrian, the south-east area was a 'high' in the basin of deposition, and gently sloped to deeper water in the north-west. Renewed diapiric activity in the north during the late Lower Cambrian is expected to have changed this pattern of deposition. The Lower Cambrian units are characterised by large variations in thickness and intertonguing relationships with other carbonate units. Several periods of transgression and recession are recorded in the sediment, and these may have been initiated by diapiric movement.
