Abstract: We propose an all-silicon polarization beam splitter (PBS) integrated into an effective-medium-clad dielectric waveguide platform. The proposed PBS operating at WR-3.4 band (220-330 GHz) is based on asymmetric directional couplers. The effective-medium-claddings are realized by periodically perforating the silicon slab with deepsubwavelength spacings. The proposed PBS has a fractional bandwidth of 40% with an average simulated insertion loss of around 1.5 dB and polarization extinction ratio up to 14 dB for both polarizations. It can be foreseen that such an all-dielectric polarization multiplexer can find wide use in terahertz integrated systems and benefit a broad range of applications, especially for shot-distance communications with increased channel capacity.
